Rain in the Desert

Shof and Nadia took Crocodile Dance to Egypt this past month.

At the Animatex Animation Festival in Cairo they showcased the journey of our project so far, taught a two-day workshop on character design for stylized animation, and met with so many cool local and international animation professionals.

Folks at the amazing Cairo based 2d animation studio Samaka, and other amazing Egyptian artists like Ahmed Teilab (Kizazi Moto), Sara Matta (Arcane, Minions), Amir Hedaya (Kizazi Moto), and Meena Ibrahim (His Dark Materials). Egyptian hospitality is famous, and for good reason. We were taken care of to an nth degree. Heck yes, Mesaka'a! (An eggplant stew).

When the curtain fell on the festival, there was time to start the first phase of Crocodile Dance's research. A desert trip! We spent 2 amazing days in the desert around Fayoum (just 2 hours West of Cairo). The trip included an entrancing sandstorm at our camp upon arrival, which was followed by rain that persisted through the night. It was special and an auspicious start to our experience this year.

For now, be well, all.

P.S. Can you spot the hidden Nadia in the pic?
